Nabbanja was welcomed as the chief guest of honour by Hajjat Namyalo, who has been calling on Ugandans from different faiths to participate in the spiritual activities at ONC Kyambogo.

The revival coincides with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 82nd birthday on September 15 and is centered on remembering those who sacrificed during Uganda’s liberation struggle while seeking divine guidance on challenges facing the country.

Beyond remembering the fallen, the gathering is also being used for prayers and reflection on national challenges including poverty, unemployment and other issues affecting Ugandans.

Religious leaders, veterans and families have reflected on the sacrifices of Uganda’s liberation warriors and the responsibility of surviving generations to preserve their legacy.

The wider commemorations have also remembered prominent figures associated with Uganda’s liberation history, including Fred Rwigyema and Gen. Elly Tumwine, alongside surviving veterans.

The event has attracted a large gathering at the ONC grounds, with the central message being that although the liberation warriors may be gone, their spirit and legacy live on.
