Tooro Prince David Kijanangoma Araali has passed away at the Mulago Cancer Institute, where he had been receiving treatment for throat cancer.
Prince David was the elder brother of the newly announced Tooro King, Omukama Edward Kijanangoma Nyabongo Amooti I.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the untimely passing on of my elder brother Prince David Kijanangoma. Prince David has lost a long time battle to cancer.”
According to reports, the prince had been battling cancer for more than a year and had exhausted his personal savings while seeking treatment in Uganda.
He reportedly needed about Shs700 million to access specialised cancer treatment in India after doctors recommended further treatment abroad.
In April, his family is said to have launched an appeal to the public for financial assistance to help raise funds towards his medical treatment.
Despite the efforts to save his life, Prince David passed away at the cancer institute, marking another loss for the Tooro royal family at a time when the kingdom is already grappling with significant developments surrounding the succession of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Details regarding his burial arrangements and programme are expected to be communicated by the Tooro Kingdom authorities in due course.
