DJ and media personality Sheilah Carol Gashumba has called for the ban of celebrity and corporate boxing matches.
She describes the increasingly popular events as “unprofessional boxing matches” that could put participants at serious risk.
Sheilah’s comments come in the aftermath of the much-hyped boxing bout between socialite and media personality Prima ‘Kardashi’ Nassozi and fellow media personality Zahara Totto at Hamz Stadium.
Following the highly publicised fight, Sheilah took to social media to question why authorities are allowing such events to continue despite the potential dangers involved.
In her view, the public should not have to wait for a serious incident involving one of the celebrity participants before action is taken.
Sheilah argued that many of the public figures taking part in these bouts may not fully appreciate the physical and mental demands of boxing, insisting that participants need to be properly prepared before stepping into the ring.
“Can someone ban these unprofessional boxing matches!! Y’all are waiting for something to happen one day to one of these ‘public figures’ for you to understand that it’s not right! People must be physically and mentally fit for such a sport!”
Her remarks have reignited debate over the growing trend of celebrity and corporate boxing events, with questions being raised about the level of training, medical preparation and safety measures in place for participants.
