The Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa) of Tooro Kingdom, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, has paid a glowing tribute to the late His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, describing him as a uniquely gifted leader with an exceptional memory, a great sense of humour and a rare ability to listen.
Rwomiire Akiiki made the emotional recollection while reflecting on his relationship with the fallen Tooro King during an interview on NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya, which airs Monday to Friday.
He recalled how King Oyo could remember even the smallest details from conversations and engagements, sometimes bringing up plans that had been discussed as far back as six months earlier—long after those around him had forgotten.
According to Rwomiire Akiiki, the King’s remarkable memory was matched by his ability to listen attentively, making people feel heard and valued whenever they interacted with him.
“King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was truly a unique individual. He was a great listener who paid attention to even the smallest details. He could remind you of an engagement you had mentioned six months earlier, and he would never forget,” Rwomiire Akiiki recalled.
Beyond his royal status, the Omuhikirwa said King Oyo had a playful side that came alive whenever he was around people he was comfortable with.
“He also had a wonderful sense of humour and always believed that there was a King above him, God,” he added, highlighting the late monarch’s humility and faith despite occupying the highest cultural office in Tooro.
Rwomiire Akiiki also expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the support he extended to King Oyo during his reign.
He went on to make an emotional appeal to the President to declare a public holiday to give Ugandans an opportunity to honour the late King and pay their final respects.
“I thank President Museveni for supporting King Oyo. I also appeal to him to declare a public holiday to allow Ugandans to honour and pay their final respects to the late King,” Rwomiire Akiiki said.
